There are certain things you can do to help prevent getting sick this year, and if the bug does find you, the following things can help shorten the duration of your misery.

First and foremost I am a Chiropractor and firmly believe that keeping your nervous system functioning optimally is one of the best ways to keep your immune system strong. Your brain controls every cell, tissue, organ, and system in your body through nerves. Pressure on these nerves prevents your brain from communicating with the body at one hundred percent.

What you put into your body is very important. Poor food choices like fast foods, processed foods (packaged), and sugary foods (including sugar substitutes) will lower your immune system. It is unavoidable, pathogens (the bacteria and viruses that get us sick) will make it into our bodies, minimizing the pathogens is key. Avoid touching your face it is the easiest way for bacteria and viruses to enter our systems. Constantly wash your hands, anti-bacterial gels are a good option if soap and water are unavailable. Washing your hands is a wonderful second defense in the event you do have to touch your face.

Regular cardiovascular exercise increases the body’s immune system. Try to complete at least twenty to thirty minutes three days per week minimum.

Supplementation is very important and should be kept simple. A high quality multi-vitamin should suffice. If you do get sick a mega dose of Vitamin C should be started at first sign of a possible sickness. The average person should take approximately five thousand milligrams spread through the day and should repeat daily until symptoms abate. A person will know they are maxed out on the vitamin when their stool becomes very soft.

These are just some ideas that one can do to enhance their immune system and stand a better chance at avoiding the dreaded sickness that runs rampant at this time of the year. For more information watch the video above.
